When you are trying to logic someone out of a bad mood you should first make sure that there isn't a legitimate reason for the poor mood. If there is then you can actually make things worse by pointing out the ways that things really ARE as bad as they thought.

This singer was sitting in with a jazz quartet. After the first run through of the first standard the pianist says "Ok, so this time we'll start in F, but sing the second 8 measures a half step lower. Then we'll sort of change keys every other measure over the bridge. Then for the last 8 measures we'll sing it kind of in Bb, but with a couple of chord alterations so that it's not really in any key at all, but with some sort of tonal shift every 4 or 5 beats."

The singer looks blank for a second and then says "Why would we do that? There's no way I could ever pull that off."

The pianist says "Why not? That's how you sang it last time."
